Fun Short Film

Joel Trujillo had said that Retro of the Dead was to be his last voyage into the realm of zombie films. Well, sometimes that can be easier said than done. He got a sudden inspiration to make a short zombie movie that pokes fun at reality tv and the found footage genre, starting the movie at the premiere of Retro of the Dead. Now, these spur-of-the-moment inspirations to make a new movie using material you've been using for another film can be a hazardous proposition at times. I've seen others where the second film in the sequence ends up being hideously boring because there's just not enough material to use. However, that doesn't happen with Reality of the Dead. The plot works very well here. There's a ton of funny moments. The set-up worked perfectly. The end even has a Blair Witch Project type of tearful apology. The characters act ridiculous, especially with the insistence of filming everything even as your friends are being chewed up. The zombie make-up is basic, but there aren't many close, long shots of them either. The acting was really good, although the players are all doing what I assume to be exaggerated versions of themselves. Reality of the Dead was a lot of fun. Who knows there may yet be another zombie from JFT Films in the future. Reality of the Dead merits an 8 out of 10.
