Story:
It's 1985. Kennie Porter still hunts and kills zombies, but time has caught up with our hero. Kennie doesn't do the hunting too much anymore. Sgt. Nordrum calls upon him for help. His daughter and boyfriend ran away and they went into the zombie zone. Even worse is that they have been captured by the crazed Monarch who likes to sing and even thinks he controls a bunch of zombies. He thinks of the zombies as his children. Can Kennie do his magic one more time and save the day?

A Ton of Fun

I have seen all of Joel Trujillo's zombie movies, and I can honestly say Retro of the Dead is my favorite. Of course, it's set in the period when I was in high school so there's a huge nostalgia factor for me here. The music was great and brought back a lot of memories. There were some great sight gags and references in here. We have a Delorean made up like Back To The Future. There's some old clips of 80s TV. Kennie Porter dresses as if he were Sonny Crocket from Miami Vice, although the reddish face make-up made me think of the WWE manager, Brother Love, as well. All that was great. But my favorite character had to be Monarch who is a take-off on Prince. We have Monarch And The Rebellion instead of Prince And The Revolution. Even better was that Monarch did parody songs of classic Prince songs that had new lyrics that referred to zombies. And they were really funny. Instead of When Doves Cry, it was something close to "This is what is sounds like when zombies die." Instead of "Rasberry Beret," it was "a zombie screaming for brains." Great stuff. I thought it would be fun to have an entire album of that. I loved Retro of the Dead. I must admit I thought Monarch's lyrics even compared well to Weird Al Yankovic. This may be Joel Trujillo's final zombie movie. If that's so, then he went out with one hell of a great movie. Retro of the Dead earns a rating of 8 out of 10.
