Some Roughs In A Diamond

Overall, The Other Side ranks high among the zombie movies I saw this year. It took awhile for me to get into, but it soon stood out as being among the upper echelon of zombie movies. One thing that held the film back at times came from the acting. The acting, overall, is very, very good. But there are a few performers here who have some problems when they undertake extremely emotional scenes. The acting seems to be very rough a few times. But the good qualities of The Other Side far outweigh those few rough patches in what ranks as a diamond of a movie. What really shines through here is some excellent storytelling, great characters, and an emotionally-powerful plot. The ending is truly excellent. The creators manage to pull of a number of surprises and twists without any of them appearing to be hokey, something that isn't always easy to do. The characters are eminently likeable, which always helps in a character driven film. The make-up for the zombies was excellent. The blood and gore was very well done. The pacing was very good as well. I liked how the zombies remain in the background until later in the film, which helps to make them more menacing. I give The Other Side a rating of 9 out of 10.
